Blurb: Landon Carter would never have dreamed of asking Jamie Sullivan out, but a twist of fate throws them together. In the months that follow, Landon breaks down Jamie’s natural reserve and begins to get to know her and to fall in love. But the he discovers that Jamie has a reason for not letting people close. a secret taht will break his heart.
I think I have mixed feelings about this book. The story is interesting and refreshing. The story is set in the time period of 1958 and it’s an interesting to read.
It is written in the point of view of Landon Carter, it revolves around his school life, his first real love. It slightly reminds you of your own school time, the regular happenings in a school, being in the final year. Friends you had in school, the fun, the struggles and the innocence of that age. I would also give credit to the author in doing a great job in giving narratives and descriptions of the surroundings and the city, it almost felt real.
Then the love story of Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan is something else. The author has clearly succeeded in bringing out the emotions in the characters. It really touches your heart and makes you weep. It also has a bit of religious touch to it.I was actually satisfied with the story. The author managed to keep me glued to book untill the end. The unexpected twists and turns makes it more engaging.
Along with being a great story it also makes you believe in true love and miracles, if atleast for a moment, you will feel connected to the story. The story has a comic side too and I have to say I really enjoyed them. It’s really amusing the way Landon Carter reacts when he is put in a tight spot.
I love the story. But then I have read The Notebook by the same author and I thought the plot is some what similar. In both stories the protagonist who is a old man who recalls and narrates us his love story that happened when he was young. And both stories revolve around the protagonist waiting for a miracle to happen, so that his loved one is saved.
I would reckon it as a engaging read. A great love story set up in some interesting situations, with all the twists and turns, will surely make you love the book.
My Rating: 4/5
