Modern childhood in modren india

Modern childhood??? What is that?? Must be wondering right?? Well, I’ll tell you but before that just go back rewind the CD in your mind and think about your childhood, so what do you remember about your childhood??? I don’t about your’s but let me tell you my experience not that I remember everything but still let me try. My childhood was very simple like any other child’s. I remember how I used to cry while going to school, how i , (in the Scholl ground which had a mud ground) used to play in the mud making ,mud houses, writing alphabets and other drawings on mud using a stick actually we use to sit in the mud and play. I used to play hide and seek, lock and key, pole pole, etc.and we also use to gather various objects fallen on the ground like stones, flowers, sticks and other things and make paper money and practically open a shop. It would make a very long list so let me stop here, now you might be wondering why is she talking about all this and what is modern childhood??

Like modern world and modern thoughts childhood also has a modern version and this modern version is entirely different from my childhood though my childhood was not 25 years ago but still it differs.

Now kids doesn’t cry when they are sent to school as they start preparing (or forced to prepare) to their entrance exams from the age of 2. They don’t play in mud as It’s not hygienic and its not a good habit. Do you know why elders didn’t stop us when we were playing in mud?? because they knew that it had iron content in it, and it was actually considered healthy , in earlier days no one used slippers and walked bare foot, this was because one got stronger .But these modern kids get so much sensitive that even a small wound makes them weak. Also in olden days when there were no books invented they used to write on sand and learn.

And kids neither play outdoor games these days as they are always sticking to the phone as if they were born with phones in their hands, maybe they do play outdoor games but not a majority of them do it. The games I mentioned earlier gave us a chance to run and by playing those games one got tired and hungry. Parents complain nowadays that their kids have problem eating food properly it’s because they just eat and sit again they eat and sit there is no exercise, so no matter what they do they don’t get hungry as the food they ate earlier would not be digested and they can’t eat more.

Picking up things fallen on the road is a bad habit so there is no shop opened by the little nuts of these days and they don’t get exposure to real world. And when they are suddenly sent to a shop to buy something for their mothers, they either forget the items which they were supposed to bring or they forget to bring back the change or both.

Earlier we used to work hard to get good marks as we were ashamed to flunk but these days children though they flunk are sometimes encouraged by saying they will get through next time and they are used to failure of course they say ‘failure is the stepping stone for success’ but that doesn’t mean you are not taught a lesson the first time you fail so that the second you at least try to win.

Today’s children are tomorrow’s future, right??? How do you expect a great future of or from children who doesn’t have a good and better today??

People have become so modern in certain aspects ( in which modernisation is not that much required) that they forget some basic facts and in aspects where you require modernisation we are still old fashioned, caste discrimination and gender discrimination which prevail even today maybe taken as examples.

To create a good and great future of some kid in India or India as a whole, a good and strong base or foundation is very much necessary or else how much ever we try to change India and build it as a good and strong nation the efforts comes tumbling down like the building with poor foundation.

India, even after 65 years of independence is still a developing nation whereas Japan even after a great damage in second world war on its two cities is developed nation why?? because they have strict rules, the whole nation work together in times of emergency. They don’t give holidays when some great person die they instead word double hard on those days. Like Indians they are not busy to cut a deal for themselves when the nation goes to hell.

So it’s time for some changes to be done of course I’m not foolish enough to think that by reading this the mindsets of people will change ASAP , it takes time but I think we are well past our time, I mean are 65 years not enough for us ?????

So put some pressure on YOUR mind and think and ACT fast so that we don’t have to regret later.

  1. I too agree with you Vaishnavi…….

It seems to me that many parents today greatly overindulge their kids—sometimes to the point where they can’t cope as adults. Can’t they see the obvious harm it will do to them in the long run??

  2. Nice one Vaishnavi..:)
    Though provoking for modern PARENTS!!
Totally depends on parents how to raise their child.
Children are always children they too love to play in mud, fight etc
The modern PARENTS should spend time with their children for a better future.
All the best for future endeavors vaishnavi!! πŸ™‚
